Mr Toufan Bahrami – Senior Consultant Cardiac Surgeon

Mr Toufan Bahrami is a leading consultant cardiac surgeon at Royal Brompton and Harefield Hospitals, with additional practice at The Harley Street Clinic. HE is the President of the British and Irish Society of Minimal Access Surgery (BISMICS).

With over 20 years’ experience and more than 3,000 procedures performed, he is recognised nationally and internationally as a pioneer in minimally invasive and endoscopic (keyhole) heart surgery.

He is the UK’s only consultant with expertise across the full spectrum of minimally invasive and endoscopic cardiac surgery, including mitral and aortic valve repair, minimally invasive direct coronary artery bypass (MIDCAB), aortic root surgery and complex reoperations. He has personally performed more than 1,500 minimally invasive procedures — one of the highest volumes in the country — with outstanding outcomes, even in high-risk patients.

Mr Bahrami trained in Paris and London under world-renowned cardiac surgery pioneers, including Professor Alain Carpentier and Professor Sir Magdi Yacoub. He joined Royal Brompton and Harefield Hospitals in 2001, where he now leads the minimally invasive and endoscopic surgery programme. He has introduced multiple world-first techniques, including triple keyhole bypass surgery and minimally invasive aortic valve replacement, and continues to lead innovation in robotic and beating-heart surgery.

Alongside his surgical practice, Mr Bahrami has published extensively in leading journals, trains consultant colleagues in the UK and abroad, and contributes to international research and clinical trials. His approach combines advanced surgical skill with meticulous multidisciplinary care, ensuring every patient receives highly personalised treatment with the best possible outcomes.
